The word 'cancer' has always generated a lot of respect, however, from the Women's Unit we want to send you a message of hope, because, Thanks to early diagnosis, breast cancer is cured in most cases.
We place special emphasis on early diagnosis, which is why the cure rate is so promising—around 100% in most cases.
But is there any possibility of ensure this early detection from breast cancer? Of course.
The key to early detection
Screenings are an essential part of the battle against this—and any—type of cancer. Therefore, women should have gynecological checkups periodically from the moment you have your first sexual relations.
The gynecologist, in these first medical appointments, must, in addition to examining the genital system to rule out other types of pathologies and provide relevant advice, perform a comprehensive breast examination, regardless of the patient's age.
As the woman gets older - from the age of 25 if there is a family history or an abnormality is detected - it is essential that this examination is complemented with other tests, such as mammography, which is - and will surely continue to be, for many years - the gold standard for the early diagnosis of breast cancer.
To this anticancer formulation a second basic test will have to be added, the ultrasound.
In addition, there are other tests that allow you to refine the results extracted from the two previous tests, for example, the magnetic resonance.
In the event of having detected the presence of lumps in the breast, more invasive tests will be necessary:
biopsies or fine needle aspiration (FNAB), performed by the radiologist himself in the x-ray room, allow the cells of the nodules to be analyzed. For those cases in which the diagnosis -not favorable- is more evident, a core needle biopsy (CNB).
These are the tests that will facilitate the early diagnosis of breast cancer; the Director of the Women's Unit, Mr. Dr. Vidal, in the following video:
