WOMEN'S UNITY

Why choose in vitro fertilization or ICSI?

It involves fertilizing eggs outside the woman's body to generate embryos that will later be transferred to the mother's uterus. It is the most effective reproductive technique with a high pregnancy rate. It is indicated when other reproductive techniques have failed or for couples with major fertility problems.

OUR PROCESS

What is the process of in vitro fertilization?

In Vitro Fertilization or IVF stands out for being a very simple, convenient process with a high success rate.

1. Ovarian stimulation or multiple ovulation induction

2. Follicular puncture, better known as ovarian puncture

3. In vitro fertilization and embryo culture

4. Embryo transfer

There are 4 types of in vitro fertilization

TECHNICAL COOKIES

What are the techniques of in vitro fertilization?

TESA Technique

At the Women's Unit, we perform all the legal techniques available to achieve pregnancy. These include in vitro fertilization with sperm obtained through testicular biopsy.

It is indicated in cases of absence of sperm in the ejaculate due to obstructive causes, either due to a pathology such as cystic fibrosis or a previous vasectomy.

ROPA Technique

Spanish law allows same-sex couples to extract eggs from one partner, fertilize them with donor sperm, and transfer the resulting embryo to the uterus of the other partner. In this way, both women participate in the conception and pregnancy of their baby.

single parent families

Today, many women choose to have a child without a partner. At the Women's Unit, they can opt for either artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization with donor sperm, depending on the specifics of each case.

Frequently asked questions about IVF at the UDM

Click (+) for more information.
Are sterility and infertility the same thing? What are the key differences?
Infertility could be defined as the inability of an individual or a couple to conceive; it can affect 1 in 6 couples of childbearing age. Infertility, on the other hand, is a condition that prevents the ability to carry a pregnancy to term with a healthy newborn.
What is the success rate of in vitro fertilization?
In our Unit, we achieve success rates exceeding 50%, meaning one in two women who begin the reproductive cycle manages to become pregnant.
Is in vitro fertilization the most effective assisted reproduction technique?
In vitro fertilization is currently the most effective assisted reproduction technique thanks to the significant scientific and technological advances that have been made, especially at the laboratory level.
What is in vitro fertilization?
In vitro fertilization is a reproductive technique in which a woman's eggs are extracted and fertilized in the laboratory, either through conventional procedures or through intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). The resulting embryo, with the highest chance of implantation, is then placed in the mother's uterus.
In what cases is it advisable to use in vitro fertilization?
In vitro fertilization is currently the most effective method of assisted reproduction. It is especially recommended for male-caused or tubal infertility, when other assisted reproduction techniques have failed, or when it is advisable to study the embryo in a laboratory before transferring it to the mother's uterus (advanced maternal age, risk of genetic diseases, repeated miscarriages).

Preimplantation genetic study

WHAT DOES IT CONSIST OF?

This is the genetic study of the embryo before the transfer. When the embryo has between 70 and 100 cells (blastocyst stage), a 45-cell biopsy is taken, which are then analyzed.

A euploid (chromosomally normal) embryo has the best chance of implanting and resulting in a successful pregnancy and a healthy baby at home.

WHEN IS IT APPROPRIATE TO DO IT?

It is indicated in families with hereditary diseases, repeated miscarriages, implantation failure, previous children with genetic syndromes, advanced maternal age, or genetic study of altered semen (sperm FISH).

WHAT IS EMBRACE?

It's a new, noninvasive technique that provides information about the embryo's genetics without manipulating it. EMBRACE allows us to determine whether embryos obtained through IVF treatment have the correct chromosome number, which increases the chances of achieving a healthy pregnancy.

Embryos obtained through assisted reproduction treatment release DNA during their development in the laboratory. The DNA is deposited in a drop of liquid called culture medium, and it is this drop that is analyzed.

Ruber International Hospital is the first center in Spain authorized and validated to perform this technique, and we currently have embryo pregnancies analyzed using EMBRACE.

DONOR OOCYTES

IVF cycle with donor oocytes

What is?

It is an in vitro fertilization between eggs from a young, anonymous donor and sperm from the recipient's partner. The resulting embryo is then transferred to the recipient's previously prepared uterus.

When is it indicated?

It would be indicated in cases of advanced maternal age, low ovarian reserve or premature ovarian failure, and in cases of failure of previous reproductive techniques using one's own eggs.

How is the donor selected?

Donors are women under 35 years of age, who undergo a complete personal and family history, a psychological test, and a chromosome analysis. The donor selection process takes into account the recipient's physical characteristics and compatible blood type. Genetic panels for recessive diseases and histocompatibility testing are now available to ensure the donor is the best match for the couple's needs.

What is the success rate?

In vitro fertilization cycles with donor oocytes have a very high success rate, around 70% per transfer.
