New childbirth preparation program: comprehensive support for informed and safe motherhood
The arrival of a baby is one of the most transformative experiences in a family's life. Along with the joy and excitement, doubts, concerns, and the need for support throughout the entire process also arise. With this in mind, midwives María Moltó Navarrete, Íria Rodríguez de la Torre, and Esther Heras Garrido , from the Women's Unit at Ruber International Hospital, have developed a new Comprehensive Childbirth Preparation Program that supports expectant mothers and their families from the beginning of pregnancy through the first months of the newborn's life.
This program, consisting of six sessions, offers up-to-date information, practical tools, and a supportive environment to resolve doubts and face each stage with greater confidence and security.
Comprehensive support during pregnancy and motherhood
Modern childbirth preparation goes far beyond simply knowing what the birth will be like. It involves understanding the changes the body undergoes during pregnancy, preparing for labor and delivery, understanding the postpartum recovery process, receiving breastfeeding support, and acquiring basic knowledge about newborn care.
Therefore, we have designed a route that comprehensively addresses all these stages.
Pregnancy: Understanding the changes to experience them with peace of mind
The first session, recommended from weeks 12-14 of gestation, is focused on pregnancy and the physiological changes that occur during this stage.
We will discuss recommended care, nutrition, physical exercise, medical check-ups, diagnostic tests, and obstetric follow-up, providing practical information to help expectant mothers experience pregnancy in a healthy and conscious way.
Childbirth: Understanding the process to face it with confidence
One of the biggest concerns during pregnancy is often the moment of childbirth . In this session, we will explain how to recognize its onset, what its different phases are, and what a woman can expect in each of them.
We will also discuss the different methods of pain relief, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological, as well as the first moments after birth and the importance of early contact with the baby.
In addition, we will review the main warning signs and the most frequent reasons for consultation during the last weeks of pregnancy.
Postpartum: caring for the mother during a time of great change
After birth, a new stage begins, full of physical and emotional adaptations.
During this session we will address the bodily changes typical of postpartum, the care needed to promote a safe recovery, and aspects related to the emotional well-being of the mother.
We will also discuss how couples and families adapt to this new reality, offering tools to cope with this period in the most positive way possible.
Breastfeeding: information, support and guidance
Although breastfeeding is a physiological process, it often requires information and support to be successful.
In this session we will explain what the mother can expect during the first few days, how to promote a good start to breastfeeding, what the most frequent difficulties are and what strategies can help to resolve them.
Our goal is for families to feel supported and have access to evidence-based information to make informed decisions.
Newborn care: safety in the first few days
The first steps in caring for a baby often raise many questions. Therefore, we dedicate a specific session to fundamental aspects such as skin-to-skin contact, hygiene, sleep, rest, colic, and the basic needs of the newborn.
We will also explain which signs and symptoms require medical evaluation so that families can act with peace of mind and confidence.
First aid and basic CPR
The last session is geared towards providing basic knowledge of pediatric first aid.
Families will learn how to act in situations such as choking and will learn the essential maneuvers of basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in infants and newborns.
This is a practical training that provides peace of mind and security during the first months of the baby's life.
A preparation to experience motherhood with confidence
At the Women's Unit of Ruber International, we believe that information, support, and trust are fundamental to experiencing pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting in a positive way.
With this new Comprehensive Childbirth Preparation Program, we want to offer our patients and their families a space where they can learn, resolve doubts, and feel supported by specialized professionals during one of the most important stages of their lives.
