  • Breastfeeding is the best food you can choose for your baby.
  • Breastfed babies have a lower risk of serious illnesses, acute otitis media, lower respiratory tract infections, asthma, leukemia, atopic dermatitis, and sudden death.
  • In addition, it reduces the risk of obesity, celiac disease, and diabetes in adulthood.

3 types of breastfeeding consultations

Breastfeeding pathology consultations

Breastfeeding normally goes well, but occasionally it can go awry and cause problems such as pain, engorgement, mastitis, etc. This consultation is for any questions or conditions related to breastfeeding.

These are individualized consultations with exclusive advice where we evaluate your baby, your feeding habits, and your breast.

Return to work or breastfeeding withdrawal plan

We help you return to paid work and fully or partially stop breastfeeding. However you want, and at your own pace.

We create individual weaning plans to ensure that it's as respectful as possible for both of you. This is a difficult stage, and we want to be there to support both you and your baby.

Breastfeeding workshops

So you know everything you need to know about breastfeeding. We offer group (2-3 people) and individual workshops so you can learn however you want. Because the only thing we can do to prepare our breasts for breastfeeding is to educate ourselves and stay informed.

Frequently Asked Questions About Breastfeeding

Do I need to prepare my breast for breastfeeding?

No. Your breasts are already ready for breastfeeding. You're the one who needs to prepare and train. You need to educate yourself about how it works, what to expect, warning signs, breastfeeding crises, and so on. The more information you have about breastfeeding, the better you'll understand how it works, and if something goes wrong, you'll be able to detect it early. However, we live in an era where there's so much information that it can lead to misinformation. That's why we offer personalized breastfeeding workshops to prepare and train you for this new stage.

What problems can we resolve in a lactation consultation?

At the lactation consultation, we can help you with any breastfeeding problems you may be experiencing: pain, cracks, mastitis, engorgement, selective blockages... All of these conditions are preventable causes of breastfeeding abandonment. Early professional advice is essential to avoid not only abandonment but also major complications, such as a breast abscess.

What warning signs might tell me something is wrong?

Primarily, pain. Breastfeeding is a natural experience that shouldn't hurt beyond the discomfort of the first few days and during the initial feedings. If you experience pain that doesn't go away and increases, it's a sign that something isn't right and you should seek help. Other warning signs include redness, fever, or hardness, either local or overall. If any of these symptoms appear, you should seek help.

What if I want to stop breastfeeding?

If you want to stop breastfeeding, for any valid reason, we can also help you. Currently, there is no medication that inhibits lactation once it has begun, so weaning should be as gradual as possible to avoid mastitis. We create gradual and respectful weaning plans. And if you want to return to work but continue breastfeeding, we create personalized plans so you can continue breastfeeding if that's what you want.

"I'm delighted with the treatment I received from Dr. Rodríguez-Piñero. Thanks to her, I was able to overcome difficulties and avoid complications during breastfeeding. I think she's an essential help during this stage, as little is said after childbirth about how to do it and, most importantly, how to do it well."
